Mr. Shirl Evans is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. Shirl is married and has three sons and grandchildren. During the Vietnam War, Shirl was injured from the shrapnel of a mortar blast. He was transported to a medical facility, but only after helping secure other men who were also injured. He was awarded the Purple Heart for the injuries he sustained from the mortar blast. While serving in Vietnam, Shirl also dealt with personal struggles including the knowledge that his mother was battling cancer. She would subsequently pass away shortly after his return from the war.
